Early Treatment

Your family dentist is a good source to identify when it is time to be seen by an orthodontist. It can be beneficial to screen a child as early as age 7 for possible orthodontic treatment. With early screening, we can recognize potential problems before they become serious.

During your child’s initial visit, we will determine if there are any problems such as cross-bites, open-bites or severe crowding that need to be addressed. If treatment is indicated, we will create a personalized treatment plan for your child that will benefit his/her situation.

Early orthodontic treatment varies among patients, but may include removable or fixed appliances that can provide more room for crowded, erupting teeth or preserve space for un-erupted teeth and reduce the possibility of tooth extraction.

To find out if your child is a candidate for interceptive treatment, contact us today to schedule a complimentary consultation.

Adult Treatment

There is no age limit to when you can give yourself a beautiful, confident smile. One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21. Many adults are benefitting from the recent advances and new technologies of orthodontic treatment. With today’s options, we can minimize the appearance of braces by using clear braces and aligners. These new techniques and materials have made achieving a beautiful smile more comfortable and less noticeable than ever.

Orthodontic treatment in adults can be for purely cosmetic reasons – to straighten crooked teeth or close unwanted spaces – and can improve your personal appearance and self-esteem. Orthodontic treatment can also improve the overall health of your teeth and gums. Crooked teeth and a bad bite can contribute to bone loss, tooth decay, abnormal wear of the tooth enamel, headaches, and jaw-joint pain. Dr. Wheeler and his team will work together with your dentist to produce the best functional and esthetic results.

If you have concerns about your teeth, you can have your questions answered at your complimentary consultation. Please contact us today to schedule an appointment for yourself.

Braces

Braces can correct crooked and crowded teeth, a misaligned bite, and jaw problems. Braces also eliminate problems you may have with eating, speaking properly, or with keeping your teeth clean. Traditional braces have come a long way over the years, becoming sleeker, smaller, and more comfortable.

Traditional braces may be made of metal or ceramic brackets that are bonded to your teeth with an adhesive and are connected by wire. By placing a constant, gentle force in a controlled direction, braces slowly move the teeth to a corrected position. You can choose the color of the ties that hold the wire in the braces for a more personalized look.

Clear aligners are a set of clear, removable trays that are custom fitted to your teeth. You wear them to gradually move your teeth to the desired position. The next tray in the series is used as your teeth shift. Dr. Wheeler will evaluate your specific situation and help determine if you are a candidate for treatment with clear aligners.

Wearing Retainers

The retention phase of treatment comes after tooth movement has been completed by your braces, aligners, or other orthodontic appliances. Your long-term orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with retainers to preserve the hard work you’ve put in so far!

There are different styles of retainers. They can be removable or permanent. Dr. Wheeler will work with you to select the style that will work best for you at the time tooth movement is completed and the appliances are removed.

Initially, you will be asked to wear your retainers all the time except for when participating in sports and while eating and brushing your teeth. As the teeth stabilize, the amount of time the retainer will need to be worn will decrease. The duration of the retention phase is unique to the individual and depends on the length of your treatment and on your tendency for relapse. To keep the beautiful smile you have worked for, please follow the specific wear instructions given to you.

If your retainers are lost or broken, please contact the office on the next business day so that we can determine if a new retainer is needed and schedule the necessary appointment.

Your First Visit

During your first visit, Dr. Wheeler will conduct a complete orthodontic clinical exam. He will listen to your concerns, discuss the results of the examination with you and review the benefits of any necessary treatment. If treatment is indicated, our staff will explain further records needed to finalize the treatment plan as well as financial options for payment.

Your Consultation Visit

The consultation visit is scheduled at the end of your first visit. Once all necessary records have been obtained and Dr. Wheeler has prepared a personalized treatment plan for your case, he will personally review your records and his recommended treatment plan with you.

The staff will work with you to identify the payment option that best fits your family’s financial resources.

Observation Visits

For some children, starting treatment would be more effective after there is further growth and dental development. If this is the case, your child will be re-evaluated every six to twelve months at no extra charge until the timing is ideal to begin orthodontic care.

Finances &
Insurance

Orthodontic treatment is an excellent investment. Financial considerations should not be an obstacle in obtaining this important health service. Our staff will assist you in filing dental/orthodontic insurance. The office accepts payment directly from most insurance companies, with the agreement that the unpaid balance will be your responsibility.

The fee for treatment is based on the severity of the problem and the length of time required to treat the problem. During the initial exam, you will be given an estimate of the time and cost of treatment. After the diagnostic records have been analyzed and a treatment plan has been established, the cost of treatment will be discussed. Three payment plans are available to meet most patients’ needs.

Option A: DOWN-PAYMENT PLAN
An initial payment of approximately ¼ of the total fee is due when treatment begins. The balance is paid in monthly installments payable by cash, check or credit card.

Option B: NO DOWN-PAYMENT PLAN
Payment thru CareCredit, a prompt confidential service. Payment includes a finance charge.

Option C: PAYMENT IN FULL
A courtesy reduction is given for payment in full at the beginning of treatment.
